Healthy choices can change your life Featured

Healthy choices can change your life

Making healthy choices on a regular basis can make a difference to your life. It can increase the quality of your life and extend the length of your life. Extending life wouldn’t mean a whole lot if it simply meant living extra years with more disease, increased disabilities, and without much quality to life. What we actually find is that the same lifestyle changes that add years to your life, can also add life to your years!

Are you at Risk?

Obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart disease are reaching epidemic proportions. According to the World Health Organization, at least 2.8 million people die worldwide each year as a direct result of being overweight or obese. These conditions greatly increase the risk for other health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. Besides overweight the other main causes for the high prevalence of type 2 diabetes are unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.

Invest in healthy Relationships!

Healthy relationships do not happen by chance! Whether we want it or not, we are at any moment in different relationships with our parents and children, our partners or colleagues. If these relationships are supportive ones, our immune system is strengthened and our ability to fight disease is increased.

Healthy Children = Happy Children

Childhood obesity has become a prevalent health problem around the world. The consequences are seen in osteoarthritic problems, daytime sleepiness, decline in school performance, and a decrease in personal image and self-esteem. Obesity also increases the risk to develop chronic diseases in adulthood.

What You Think Matters!

Studies reveal that positive thinking is more than being happy. Positive thoughts can actually create real value in one’s life and help build skills that last longer than a mere smile. Our attitude impacts our work, health, and life with long-term consequences. For example, negative thoughts narrow our mind and prevent us from seeing other options around us. In contrast, positive thoughts broaden our sense of possibility and allow our mind to consider other choices. One of the benefits that positive thinking provides is the enhanced ability to build skills and generate resources. If positive thinking is useful for appreciating the big picture of life, how can we be positive thinkers?

Rest for our Restlessness!

Once upon a time, a man watched a king who was playing with a chicken. Amazed, the man asked if he had nothing more important to do. “A man cannot always do important things”, the king answered. “Only when I deal with seemingly insignificant things from time to time, I am able to do also the important things.”

Hope for Depression!

Depression is a serious, complex and prevalent condition affecting people of all ages, races, religions and social classes. Depression not only involves the brain, but the entire body. It affects the way you eat, sleep, the way you feel about yourself and about things around you.

Bouncing back!

When life is difficult and when storms blow in our lives, one question burns in our mind: How may I overcome this trial? Why are some people totally destroyed by the misfortunes of life, whether caused by others or self-induced, and yet others cope?

Living free !

The US National Institute on Drug Abuse defines addiction as a “brain disease, characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences”. Addictions lead to physical, emotional, social, professional, legal and family problems.

The Power of Faith!

Trust is one of the first things a baby must learn. The baby learns to trust mom to provide food, warmth and love. Later in life we must also manifest faith in common truths. Both deception and truth can confront our minds but the consequences of each differ substantially, depending upon what we choose to believe.
